weekly photo challenge: broken

brokeni’m old enough to remember backpacking in a world without cellphones and text messaging, when you had to get coins and then find a phone booth to call home and tell you are still safe and sound. who needs phone booths nowadays? i hope no one needs this one in an emergency situation.

weekly photo challenge: afloat 3

from air to water, moving between the elements but still afloat. surfin’ at hollywood beach, los angeles. a week after i took these shots one of the surfers was attacked and injured by a white shark, luckily not fatal at least.

weekly photo challenge: cover art for “my heart beats a melody”

my heart beats a melodythis is the cover shot for an album by young artists you could vaguely describe as electro-soul. think fka twigs, alunageorge, frank ocean, empress of, and the likes and you’re in the right region. the album is a tribute to soul star james ingram and are their interpretations of his greatest moments. the title: my heart beats a melody, is a line from one of his best songs.

shoreline

intothelightever since I was eight or nine
i’ve been standing on the shoreline
for all my life i’ve been waiting
for something lasting
you loose your hunger and you loose your way
you get confused and then you fade away

oh this town
kills you when you are young
oh this town
kills you when you are young

(lyrics by henrik berggren)

weekly photo challenge: humanity (the two of us)

humanitypotentially one of the most human things of all; wanting to care for someone who cares for you. when the world stops around you, the noise from playing children is gone, not even the sunset over venice beach matters. the two of you is the only thing that matters.

weekly photo challenge: dialogue

the world of words, sometimes you need to just let them sink in. like the snow of kilimanjaro.

back to work

i saw this guy modeling around the paul smith store on melrose avenue, santa monica LA – and in combination with the store facade it was too much, i had to step in… so i asked if i could take some pictures too, placed him in front of the store and fired away. and i wish i could wear that suit going back to work today :).

get your kicks – on route 66

santa monica pier, as much to see and do during nighttime as daytime. the end of the road, the start of something else. or just a peaceful place for fishing?

sister cool

this is justine, i saw her in a salad bar in LA, asked if i could take a couple of shots and dragged her out in the hard mid day sunshine. didn’t leave much of the background, but who cares -she’s super cool.
